Catholic community prays for new Longding district
ITANAGAR, Mar 30: The Catholic community of the Diocese of Miao prayed for peace and prosperity of the newly created Longding district and its simple and hardworking Wancho people.
Partricipating the special prayer session organised at Don Bosco Church Bishop on March 28, PK George exhorted the people of the district to maintain oneness, peace and tranquility in the society for all round development of the newly created district.
Local pastor Wanghon Khanghan said, “Let us take this as a pilgrimage of peace and I am sure our combined prayer will produce great results”
The Catholic Community was celebrating the traditional, annual “Chrism Mass,” where Bishop of the region along with the priests and people prayed together. On that day they commemorated the day when Jesus established Priesthood. Rs 218.05 crore deficit budget for the year 2012-
Tagak went on to make many more allegations against the ruling party for misusing funds and for failing to tap the abundant natural resources of the state for the benefit of the people.
Stung by the unexpected criticism, the Congress party retaliated with party president and Chief Minister Nabam Tuki coming down heavily on BJP.
Tuki termed BJP as divided house stating that their MLAs had fully backed the budget on the floor of assembly. But astonishingly, the party’s general secretary was speaking in different tone outside the house. Highlighting various programmes and policies implemented by the ruling Congress for the benefit of Arunachalee citizen, Tuki urged BJP leaders to get proper knowledge about planning and financing policies first before going to media for ‘cheap’ popularity.
Proving wrong the people’s speculation that it was just a political gimmick played by two national parties, BJP yesterday hit back at Congress more rigorously. The party (BJP) while defending its general secretary Tapir Gao, said that the ruling Congress Govt in the state is trying to divert the attention of people from their wrong doings by levelling baseless and concocted allegation against the party. BJP claims that the ruling Congress government is afraid of its’s growing popularity in Arunachal Pradesh and that is why the Congress is trying to defame the party with such vitriolic attack.

Permanent beat post at border demanded

RUKSIN, Mar 30: Two beat out posts (BOP) of Arunachal Pradesh Police Battalion (APPBn)
set up at Siga and Debing portion of Assam-
The out posts are running without minimum requirements like building structure, water supply and electricity for the years. Moreover, there is no wireless communication facility and protective bunker around the camp.
The Platoon Commandant of Pasighat based 2nd APPBn, Orem Tagi today visited the BOPs and took stock of the present situation. He interacted with the local Gaon Burahs, PRI leaders and assured them to take up their grievances with the home department for the development of the police beat posts.
The police beat out post at Debing comes under Ruksin police station while the Siga BOP is controlled by Nari police station. Both the beat posts are located at the vulnerable area bordering Jonai subdivision of Assam. It may be recalled that the local people of Debing led by Kamin Apum, an Anchal Samity Member earlier moved the authority for providing necessary infrastructure and facilities to Debing beat post, but nothing has fruited yet.
Alleging that the problems being faced by the beat post at Debing is known to the higher ups of the department, the locals have demanded a permanent beat post with adequate police personnel and full facility.
Brown sugar worth Rs 5 lakhs seized
ITANAGAR, Mar 30: Brown sugar worth over Rs 5 lakh in international market and cash amount of Rs. 61,740 were seized by Bordumsa Police from a house at Bijoypur–I village under Bordumsa circle yesterday.
Acting on a tip off, the Bordumsa Police under the command of SI P.Tatu, OC and SI T.Langching, 2nd officer assisted by ASI A.K.Biswa raided the house of one Doni Chakma of Bijoypur–I village yesterday at around 7 pm and seized brown sugar weighing about 50 gram, weighing apparatus and huge quantity of drugs packaging materials and inhaling pipes from the house, Bordumsa police said.
However, the drug peddler Chakma, sensing the arrival of police, managed to fled from his hideout.
The police registered a case against Doni Chakma at Bordumsa police station and man haunt launched to nab the drugs peddler.
The seized materials with cash amount were produced before the court of Kento Riba, Judicial Magistrate First Class, Bordumsa with the preliminary case investigation report by the investigating officer for taking cognizance .
While informing this, ADC, Riba appreciated the efforts put in by the Bordumsa Police in seizing the drugs and the apparatus. The local administration and the police have tightened belts to put behind the bar all those involved in drugs trafficking and appealed to all the sensible denizens to extend their cooperation with police to minimize the drugs menace in the locality.

Three from Future Generations Arunachal (FGA) and one each from Community Learning & Doing Center (CLDC), Palin, Rintey Dene Welfare Society, Palin and Ngunu Ziro, Ziro participated in the training programme. Participants from Assam, Mizoram, Nagaland and local citizens of Agartala also attended the programme.

NEW DELHI, Mar 30: The Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) has claimed before
the National Green Tribunal (NGT) that it had taken “all necessary steps” before
granting environmental clearance to a mega hydro-
The MoEF counsel made the submission to the Tribunal in response to a petition by an challenging the environmental clearance granted to the 1,750 MW Demwe Lower Hydro Electric project on February 15 by the ministry despite majority of wildlife experts on the ministerial committee opposing it.
“MoEF and the state government of Arunachal Pradesh have taken all necessary steps in this regards,” senior advocate A D N Rao, appearing for the Ministry, told an NGT bench of its Acting Chairperson Justice A Suryanarayan Naidu and Gopal Krishna Pandey.
“Each and every thing that could have been considered has been considered before granting clearance. All the objections raised by the petitioner were considered,” Rao added.
The statement was, however, opposed by advocate Ritwick Dutta, who, appearing for NGO North East Affected Area Development Society, contended that environmental clearance was granted to the project even before the requisite studies under the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) Notification of 2006 were completed.
“The Environment Appraisal Committee and the Forest Appraisal Committee say comprehensive study has to be now done. So those studies were not complete and some of them are still pending while the environment clearance has been granted,” Dutta said.
Advocate Dutta claimed all studies were done after the clearance to the project was given.
“The whole EIA looses its meaning if these reports are done post (clearance). The public has nothing to review before the clearance,” he said.
The environmental clearance to the project was challenged by the NGO contending that it would have a serious impact on the ecology, wildlife and also the livelihood of people living upstream and downstream in neighbouring Assam.
The 1750 MW project is a joint enterprise of Athena Demwe Power and the Arunachal Pradesh government.
The work project was scheduled to begin from April 2011 but it is now scheduled to start in May this year.
On being asked by the bench, the counsel for the MoEF and the Athena said 882 hectares
land has been acquired till now and the award is yet to be passed after which the
compensation will be paid to the project-

We deserve a better deal

It is seen that, most of the time; the transport bus catering to office staffs of
Mowb-
If needed more buses should be pressed into service to avoid crowding to this route. No passenger should be allowed to travel standing. Not a long time ago when a major accident occurred in between the twin capital township the authority seem to have put restriction on allowing standing commuters in the buses. Now the situation seems to be free for all until another major accident jolt them out of their deep slumber. It is a complete disregard for the right to life of daily commuters in such a treacherous terrain.
The public are aware of the Government’s sincerity in boosting the revenue of the state coffer. But the drive may prove to be a hard bargain in the long run. A worker who jostled for a space to stand in the crowded bus for hours together can hardly be expected to be in the right frame of mind to discharge the duty with full potential at office. Add to it the perennial scarcity of water in the twin township. At times the citizens are deprived of even a decent bath for weeks together.
If the Government is so serious about augmenting its revenue, it can easily avoid the practice of procuring Scorpios for the officers every year. If the state Transport Department can’t live up to expectation the department concerned should arrange for conveyance of the staffs. It is pertinent to remember that a decent institution like a private primary school can arrange conveyance for its students’ at a nominal fee of Rupees 10.00 (ten) per student per day.
The departments maintain a fleet of light vehicles. Another addition of a suitable category of transport system to cater to the remaining 90% of workers seems justifiable. We seem to live amidst our own people, not in a colonized territory. No prizes for guessing who are at the receiving end.
The battle hardened common citizen who never get time to relax at office as well as at residence deserve a better deal than this please.

At the very outset I extend my heartiest congratulation to Govt of Arunachal Pradesh
lead by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki for historic achievement in the field of education
sector by passing 3 private University bills, 2012 in the recently concluded Legislative
Assembly Session. I also extend my heartiest congratulation to Education Minister,
Bosiram Siram for bringing up successfully these bills on time in the Legislative
Assembly. Minister Siram is doing excellent job in the field of education and deserved
appreciation from the common masses. Bringing these Universities in the state would
be a big helping hand for our up-
However I would like request Chief Minister to keep watch on the activities of the newly born private universities so that the dream of the better education is not shattered. This is also to be noted that the fee structure of the Universities should be strictly monitored by the state government and no monopoly business is carried out in the name of educating our young boys and girls. These universities need to be nurtured in proper manner, so that is can grow in proper way and benefit the state in true sense.
At the same time, I will not forget to mention my sincere and special thanks to Chief
Minister Nabam Tuki on behalf of people of Ziro Valley specially for passing of Indira
Gandhi Technological and Medical Science University, 2012 in the Assembly which will
be established at Ziro. If the proposed university comes up in reality then this
would be great help to coming generation in days to come. But the above proposed
university was suppose to be established during the year 2004 but why it was delayed
is best known by the authority of the World Institute of Building programme (WIBP),
which is based at Delhi. But, I have already drawn the attention of Dr. P.R Trivedi,
the President of WIBP and all other concern authority of the WIBP to keep seat reservation,
job reservation and fees concession for the children of the land donor which is to

Mixed up priorities!
Dear Editor,
Ruma of “Spare a day to help Ruma clean up!” seem to have mixed up her priorities. What is needed is cleaning up of rusted minds of people. More so of the people in the helm of affairs. Thought the leaders and top bureaucrats are allowed to sojourn in foreign countries at the cost of public exchequer. Can’t they see the clean streets of those countries?
It is useless to think the people will learn from a good example like this. What is need is a strict rule and a mechanism to enforce it with zeal. If our institutions are so weak that even such a simple cleanlineless drive can’t be enforced, then there must be something seriously wrong with us as a society. Creamy layer and torch bearer of our society need to ponder over it before it is too late for resurrection.

Postpone exam for sake of students
Dear Editor,
I would like to put forward my grievances regarding interview to be conducted by education department. I had applied for the post of Laboratory Assistant and Attendent vide Advt. No.ED.2/126/2011 dated Itanagar, 21st Feb ‘2011. The education department has come up with lot of mistakes. After waiting for more than 1 years, I received admit card only for the post of Lab attendant, what about Lab assistant? Further to my difficulty, examination centre is at Aalo, West Siang while am residing at Ziro. I would like to inform that in advertisement it was clearly mentioned that interview will be held in the Directorate of School Education, Itanagar. Also, the examination date falls on 21st & 22nd April, which coincides with university examination. So, in this regard I would like to request concerned authorities to immediately notify for the post of lab assistant. We also seek postponing of examination date till university exam gets over.

Through the columns of your esteemed daily, we the Adi Students' Union, would like to sincerely extend our gratitude to the state government for passing the State University Bill. We profoundly welcome and hail the decision of the state government to establish the State University at Pasighat. We hope that the State University Bill passed in the recent legislative assembly session would go a long way in improving the education scenario in the state.
It was a long felt demand, and most appropriate and befitting one for the Jawaharlal Nehru College Pasighat, the oldest college in the state which has been grooming generations of luminaries for the state. We are sincerely thankful to the government under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Nabam Tuki. Odisha kidnapping case: an eye opener for Arunachal
The recent abduction of two Italian nationals and one Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA has drawn the attention of international communities towards Naxals moment in India. By carrying out such audacious kidnapping, naxalites are only trying to prove their might to the government. The abduction of the BJD MLA is surprising as negotiations were being held on the given lines of the Naxals regarding release of two kidnapped Italians. In spite of the government’s concerted effort to get released the Italians, the Naxals carried out this daring act. What the Naxals actually want is not clear. But it is evident that they want to put the government in a helpless position. Unable to handle the crisis, Odisha government has sought Centre’s help in this regard. But to what extent the Centre will provide help to Odisha is yet to be seen as Naveen Patnaik was the first Chief Minister to oppose the setting up of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC). Does he now realize that Terrorism and Naxalism are not just law and order problem? Both the Centre and State governments must work in tandem to fight this threat. However giving him some breathing space, naxals have released one of the kidnapped Italians.
